Leah Daniels has sold Hill’s Kitchen (713 D St. SE).
Saturday, May 31 is her final day at the shop.
“After 17+ years of owning Hill’s Kitchen, it is time for me to the baton,” Daniels said in an instagram post announcing the sale May 30.
Daniels es the shop on to Sarah Needle and Miles Hamilton to continue the legacy of Hill’s Kitchen. Needle is a former employee. In an instagram pot announcing her departure, Daniels said the two are excited to get to the community and bring new energy to the store.
Needle and Hamilton said that ion and love for food has always been in the center of their lives. Noting that they are former resturant professionals, they wrote that they will continue to offer expertise and provide a space “where everyone —home cooks and professional chefs alike—can gather, learn, and celebrate the joy of cooking together.”
“Our mission is simple: to make your kitchen experience richer, more joyful, and a little bit bigger—just like the dining room table we’ve always cherished,” the new owners added to Daniel’s post.
Councilmember Charles Allen (Ward 6-D), who presented Hill’s Kitchen with the on the business’s tenth anniversary, said that Daniels was an amazing neighbor, as well as “entrepreneur, leader and friend.”
“She made Hill’s Kitchen into one of the heartbeats of Capitol Hill,” wrote Allen. “She dispensed advice about the new pan or gadget you needed as easily as she greeted everyone with a huge smile or hug. She built something special!”
The special place lives on, but the special person must move on. Stop by to say farewell to Daniels Saturday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the shop.
Hill’s Kitchen will close Sunday and Monday and reopen under new management Tuesday, June 3.
