Hill Family Biking to Unveil Crosswalk Mural

Hill Family Biking is thrilled to announce the unveiling of a permanent crosswalk mural artwork at Maury Elementary on August 31st at 11:30am. This initiative is intended to not only beautify the Capitol Hill neighborhood but also to emphasize safety for pedestrians and cyclists.

The crosswalk artwork, created by DC woman-owned mural production house ChalkRiot, features an eye-catching design that borders each side of the crosswalk at 13th and Tennessee.

Hill Family Biking said that the goal of the project is to make the crosswalk more visible to drivers, to recognize pedestrians, children, bicycles and s of the crosswalk, hoping it helps drivers reduce their speed thereby encouraging safer driving in the school corridor. It is believed to be the first permanent crosswalk artwork of its kind in DC.

Hill Family Biking partnered with Maury Elementary School (1250 Constitution Ave. NE) to raise funds for this project, including grants from Capitol Hill Community Foundation and Advisory Neighborhood Commission (ANC) 6A.
The crosswalk will be unveiled at the conclusion of the Hill Family Biking Back to School Ride. That group ride, one of the Hill Family Biking series designed to encourage family riding in DC, begins  at Maury Elementary at 10:30 a.m. Aug 31. The 4.5-mile ride is expected to attract over 300 participants of all ages and abilities, and Hill Family Biking encourages the community to the ride.
Hill Family Biking is a non-profit that organizes monthly family-friendly bike rides on and around Capitol Hill and serves as a community hub for all things biking on the Hill. Each year, Hill Family Biking will partner with a Capitol Hill area school to install permanent street art and host a block party. Maury is the first school to partner with Hill Family Biking.
