The ride starts with a celebration of the new protected bike lanes on Florida Ave. NE. As part of the ceremony, the group will be honoring Dave Salovesh – a titan of the BikeDC community who ed away 6 years ago after he was struck by a driver on Florida Ave, inspiring the protected bike lanes along the corridor.

More than 300 participants are already signed up, so expect a great group atmosphere on a 4-mile slow ride to Lincoln Park.

Volunteers will be marshaling to ensure we stay together as a group. The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) bike team will also be participating in the ride to connect officers with the community.

If your bikes need some TLC, come 15 minutes early to get some assistance– HFB will have bike maintenance tools available, as well as some experienced amateur bike mechanics on hand to assist.

HFB wants to express gratitude to ride sponsor, The Daily Rider!

RSVP to keep informed: HFB is keeping a close eye on the weather.

This very special ride has a lot going on, so please consider the following as you prepare to :

Flowers for Dave’s Ghost Bike. The group will be lay flowers at the start of the ride to honor the memory of Dave Salovesh on the 6th anniversary of his tragic death. In addition to flowers, HFB will provide tags to attach to Dave’s bike if you want to write a note. Please arrive by 3:45 p.m. if you’d like to participate.

Bring Blankets for Lincoln Park. There will be a magician, free pizza, a porta potty and more so bring blankets, chairs or anything else you’d want to enjoy a wonderful evening at Lincoln Park.

Parents to the left. Everyone to the right. The group will ride down both Florida and Maryland avenues and expects more than 300 (!) participants. Organizers say it is important for parents to keep to the left of your kiddos on those busier streets. Where there are double yellow lines, everyone should stay to the right.
