Police Search for Shih Tzu Stolen in Southeast

Another dog has been stolen, this time from a car in Southeast Capitol Hill.

On Saturday, July 13, at around 12:58 p.m., a woman left a dog and her purse in her car while parked in the 1900 block of M Street SE, a relatively quiet block along the river where the Anacostia Community Boathouse is located, along the river south of the Congressional Cemetery.

When the woman returned, both her dog and her purse were missing.

The stolen dog is a two-year-old male Shih Tzu named Theo.  Theo was last seen wearing a green collar with a bone shaped dog tag. Photos of Theo can be seen above.

There have been a rash of dog thefts in the District. In January, a French Bulldog was stolen from a car parked in Shaw. A week earlier, eight puppies were stolen around 1 p.m. in the 1700 block of U Street SE, in Anacostia.

Three dogs were taken in the DMV over the weekend of June 29; on the Saturday night a French Bulldog named Yurman was stolen as his owner walked him on the 1700 block of Fort Davis Street in Southeast.

Fortunately, Yurman was recovered by police July 7.

Theo’s owners hope for the same outcome.

Anyone who has knowledge of the circumstances surrounding this dog theft or any other should take no action but call the police at (202) 727-9099 or text your tip to the Department’s Text Tip Line at 50411.  The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) currently offers a reward of up to $1,000 to anyone who provides information that leads to the arrest and indictment of the person or persons responsible for a crime committed in the District of Columbia.
