It’s set to be hot as a firecracker on July 4, so be prepared for a sizzling parade starting at 10 a.m. Thursday!
Temperatures will already be in the high 80s when the parade kicks off from Eighth Street and Virginia Avenue SE. The Eastern High School Blue and White Marching Machine will lead the parade north to Eastern Market Plaza.
The shady side of the street will be on the east side, so stake out your spot early. Saavy parade attendees will know to bring water, fans, sunscreen and chairs. Kids often bring bags to collect the candy and other fun items tossed out by the marchers, notably the Men and Women in Blue of Ready, Willing and Working (RWW) who fill their tubs with candy.
The parade features local schools, organizatons, teams and businesses and is scheduled to last until noon,
Break A World Record
After the parade: break a Guiness World Record! Barracks Row Main Street (BRMS) wants to try to make the world’s largest human ice cream cone. The attempt will take place right after the parade, so stay to play.
Participants should meet at the stage under the Eastern Market Metro Plaza Pavillion to get instructions as soon as the parade is over. Participants get a free scoop of ice cream!
The current record was set on Dec. 18, 2019 by 478 participants, all workers at Nestlé in Qingdao, Shandong, China.
The attempt on July 4th is an official Guiness World Record Event! It can be certified right there, but at least 480 must participate to do it! Help get Barracks Row (and Capitol Hill) in the books!
