Bring out the whole family to celebrate Eastern Market’s 150th anniversary Nov. 10-12!
Eastern Market has been called the Heart of the Hill, at the center of holiday traditions from Hilloween to Holiday trees and everyone’s favorite destination for fresh food or just a weekend walk.
centered around it. Included in the original L’Enfant plan, it was designed by noted architect Adolf Cluss. The market was built in 1871. A center and North Hall were added in 1908.
The market was in continuous operation from 1873, when construction was completed, until April 30, 2007 when a fire gutted the building. Market vendors immediately re-opened in the outdoor market and the community rallied around the vendors. The building was renovated and reopened in 2009.
