Dust off your Doc Martins and head down to the Rock ā€˜n’ Roll Hotel to catch Mystery Friends this Friday, Jan. 26. A mashup of the Talking Heads and pre-sellout Deborah Harry, the band combines powerful female vocals with angular guitars, synthesizers and funky rhythms. The danceable result will suck you on to the floor.

Saturday

Get lost in the progressive, experimental, rock offerings of Kayo Dot on Saturday, Jan. 27 at DC9. The band’s sound is a mixture of black metal, post metal and chamber music. Formed in Boston in 2003, the Kayo Dot has released nine studio albums. Their latest effort, 2016’s ā€œPlastic House on Base of Sky.ā€ contains wide open ethereal chords well matched with spaced out vocals and guitars. $12. Doors open at 7 p.m.

ing Kayo Dot is local DC post rock band TONE. Founded in 1991, the band incorporates characteristics from a variety of musical influences in order to explore sounds and textures created by multiple electric guitars. Currently, they are a five-piece act. Their latest album is ā€œAntaresā€ on Dischord Records. $12. Doors at 8:30 p.m.

Monday

Check out the heavy guitar sounds of garage/alternate rock band Black Rebel Motorcycle Club (BRMC) this Monday, Jan. 29 at the 9:30 Club. Formed in San Francisco in 1998, the trio has been churning out raw, dark and ragged sounds influenced by classic and psychedelic rock.

Celebrating their 20th anniversary this year, BRMC’s eighth studio album, ā€œWrong Creatures,ā€ takes on a more atmospheric approach. but still has the elements that makes this band worth checking out. $26.00 – Doors at 7 p.m.

BRMC has partnered with PLUS1 so that $1 from every ticket goes to War Child to children and families in communities affected by war throughout the world.
